ABOUT NEUBAUER'S AUTO REPAIR
Established in 1947
Jim Neubauer has a rich family history in the automotive industry that dates back to his grandfather, Pete Reichardt. In 1947, Pete started Reichardt’s Esso, located at the corner of Route 40 and Frederick Road in Howard County, MD. As a young child, Jim would crawl through the rows of tires that were for sale at his grandfather’s shop. Later, he would stand on oil cans to clean customers’ windshields for a dime in payment from the Pepsi machine.
In the 1970s, Jim’s father, Will Neubauer, purchased and rebranded the Esso station as Neubauer’s Exxon. Jim started working at the station by cleaning restrooms and gradually progressed to turning wrenches for his father full-time after finishing school. In 1989, Jim took over Neubauer’s Exxon by retiring his father.
In 2002, Jim moved away from the gasoline business and bought a building on Chevrolet Drive in Ellicott City, MD, which is now the location of Neubauer’s Auto Repair. Jim’s children, Chelsea and Seth, also work alongside him at the shop, making them the fourth generation of the family to work in the automotive industry.
